Advanced Placement

The information below identifies how credit is awarded for each of the Advanced Placement content areas. Linfield awards 4 credits for each Advanced Placement exam when a score of 4 or 5 is earned. Students may count up to a total of 31 credits from Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and other non-course credits towards the 125 required for graduation.

Note: Credits from any one AP exam may be used to apply only one general education area or a degree (BA or BS). If an AP subject has more than one area listed you can choose where you would like it to apply. Linfield's general education requirements (Linfield Curriculum) includes six modes of inquiry and two areas of diversity studies.   • Arts/Music

    The following AP exams will be awarded 4 credits of the indicated course (if a score of 4+ is earned) and may fulfill the General Education area(s) indicated. Credits from these AP exams do not meet requirements toward a BA or BS. 

    AP Art History: ARTS elective (fulfills CS or VP)

    AP Studio Art 2-D Design: ARTS elective (fulfills CS)

    AP Studio Art 3-D Design: ARTS elective (fulfills CS)

    AP Studio Art Drawing: ARTS elective (fulfills CS)

    AP Music Theory: MUSC 100 (fulfills CS)

  • English

    The following AP exams will be awarded 4 credits of the indicated course (if a score of 4+ is earned). Credits from these AP exams do not meet requirements toward General Education or a BA or BS. 

    AP English Language and Composition: elective

    AP English Literature and Composition: elective

  • History and Social Science

    The following AP exams will be awarded 4 credits of the indicated course (if a score of 4+ is earned) and may fulfill the General Education area(s) indicated. 

    *Course may count toward the BS degree. 

    AP African American Studies: elective

    AP Comparative Government and Politics*: POLS elective (fulfills IS or GP)

    AP European History: HIST 120 (fulfills VP or GP)

    AP Human Geography: elective (fulfills IS)

    AP Macroeconomics*: ECON elective (fulfills IS or QR)

    AP Microeconomics*: ECON elective (fulfills IS or QR)

    AP Macroeconomics & Microeconomics*: ECON 210 and ECON elective, if both taken and 4+ earned on each (fulfills IS or QR)

    AP Psychology (score of 4)*: PSYC elective (fulfills IS or NW)

    AP Psychology (score of 5)*: PSYC 101 (fulfills IS or NW)

    AP United States Government and Politics*: POLS 201 (fulfills IS or US)

    United States History: HIST 150 (fulfills VP or US)

    World History: HIST 123 (fulfills VP or GP)

  • Math and Computer Science

    The following AP exams will be awarded 4 credits of the indicated course (if a score of 4+ is earned) and may count toward the BS requirement or fulfill the General Education area(s) indicated. 

    AP Calculus AB: MATH 170

    AP Calculus BC: MATH 175

    AP Computer Science A: COMP 160 (fulfills QR)

    AP Computer Science Principles: COMP 131 (fulfills IS)

    AP Precalculus: MATH 150

    AP Statistics: MATH 140 (fulfills QR)

  • Sciences

    The following AP exams will be awarded 4 credits of the indicated course (if a score of 4+ is earned) and may count toward the BS requirement or fulfill the General Education area(s) indicated. 

    AP Biology: BIOL elective (fulfills NW)

    AP Chemistry: CHEM 210 (fulfills NW)

    AP Environmental Science (score of 4): ENVS elective (fulfills NW)

    AP Environmental Science (score of 5): ENVS 201 (fulfills NW)

    The following AP exams will be awarded 4 credits of the indicated course (if a score of 4+ is earned) and will fulfill the BA requirement. Credits from these AP exams do not meet requirements toward General Education.
