The Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) was founded over 50 years ago to serve the needs of a growing wine and spirits industry. Today it operates in 70+ countries and is recognized as the global leader in beverage education. Certification courses are delivered through a worldwide network of Approved Program Providers. The Center for Wine Education at Linfield University is proud to be a part of that network.
Our WSET-certified instructors lead courses designed to inspire and empower anyone looking to increase their knowledge and deepen their understanding - from beginners to experts, enthusiasts to professionals.

Wine
Level 1 Wines: Laying the Foundation
An ideal first step, level 1 provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You'll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately and make food and wine pairings. It is well-suited for those just starting, or seeking to start, a career in the wine/hospitality industry and curious consumers who want to make more informed buying decisions.
Find Your Level 1 Wines CourseLevel 2 Wines: Leveling Up
Building on the foundation of level 1, level 2 examines the world's principal and important grape varieties, the regions in which they are grown and the styles of wine they produce. Through a combination of tasting and theory, you'll discover the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence. Completion of level 1 or prior experience with wine is recommended, but not a prerequisite for level 2.

Level 3 prepares you for advanced professional or scholarly pursuits by providing a detailed understanding of viticulture, winemaking techniques and the intricacies of global wine regions. Upon completion, you will be able to accurately and confidently assess wines and explain their style and quality. Completion of level 2 or commensurate experience/education is strongly recommended.

Beer
Level 1 Beer: First Draft
Provides a great introduction to the world of beer. Through sight, smell and taste, you'll become familiar with: main ingredients and production steps used to make beer, characteristics of key beer styles and principles of storage, service and food pairing.
After Level 1: If you work with beer, you’ll be able to answer customer queries with confidence and provide helpful recommendations. If you’re learning for fun, you’ll feel inspired to explore new styles and know how to get the most out of every glass.

Focuses on how key ingredients and production processes influence the style and characteristics of over 60 beer types. You’ll learn how to taste, describe and evaluate beer and explore ideal conditions for storage, packaging and shelf life, service temperatures and appropriate glassware.
Upon completion of Level 2: Beer or hospitality professionals will be able to offer valuable guidance on selection and service to your colleagues and customers. Beer enthusiasts will know exactly what to look for when choosing beers for any occasion.

WSET Fees and Fee Policy
Failed exams can be re-attempted, re-sit fees vary by level and format.

Full Fee and Fee Policies Schedule Reschedule
For in person classes and exams, please let us know that you will need to change your exam date 12 business days prior to scheduled exam. For online classes please let us know that you will not be able to attend the class 10 business days prior to the beginning of class. For online exams please reschedule 20 business days prior to your scheduled exam. Rescheduling outside of these timeframes will incur the associated reschedule fees below.
Resits
For re-sits, we offer the opportunity for candidates to sit with upcoming scheduled exams. Please contact us to schedule you on these predetermined dates. Associated fees will be charged at the point of registration for the resit exam.
Result Enquiry and Feedback
If you receive a failing grade or want to enquire about your results, you have within 10 business days to file a result enquiry form and pay the associated fee to receive information on your results and feedback from WSET.
Replacement of Pin or Certificate
Certificates and pins can get lost in the mail. At times, WSET may leave out pins or a name may need to be altered. You may lose your certificates and pins in a move or fire, etc. If the candidate requests a new certificate, the cost is $38 for candidates who have graduated post 1990. For candidates before 1990, the cost is $65. For pins, the cost is $7. Linfield University and WSET share the cost of items lost in the mail or issues relating to clerical errors, including name changes. Candidates only incur these costs if they have lost the certificate or pin once they have been received by the candidate.
