Grievances and Appeals

If a student with a disability believes they have experienced discrimination from a member of the Linfield University faculty, staff, or administration solely on the basis of disability, they should contact the Office of Learning Support Services (lss@linfield.edu). The Office of Learning Support Services and the student will attempt at resolving the matter informally. Students who are not comfortable working directly with the Office of Learning Support staff in the informal process can also connect with the Associate Provost for Academic Support and Accessibility.

Grievance matters that cannot be resolved through the informal process will be directed to the Associate Provost for Academic Support and Accessibility as a formal appeal and a committee will review the matter. Any grievances that remain unresolved will be referred to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs for final internal disposition of the case.

Students are encouraged to work through the internal process, but do have the right to file an external complaint of disability discrimination with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. At any time, a student may contact the Office for Civil Rights.
