Academic interests

My research focuses broadly on plant evolution. In particular I am interested in the process of speciation, the phylogeny (evolutionary family trees) and the population genetics of several groups of plants. I currently have research projects focusing on pines (Pinus), yeast (Saccharomyces) and a family of parasitic plants (Orobanchaceae). To address these questions, I utilize next-generation DNA sequencing technology and computational bioinformatics to analyze massive data sets and push technological advances. I work with a large network of collaborators across the country and employ a dedicated group of undergraduate researchers here at Linfield University.
