Evan Shenkin joined the Linfield faculty in 2022. As an environmental sociologist, his research focuses on Indigenous community land and autonomy struggles in the eastern lowlands of the Bolivian Amazon. He also studies social movements for environmental justice through a variety of local, regional, and international case studies including community opposition to landfills, fossil fuel divestment campaigns, and alternative development paradigms, including renewable energy, transportation (solar, wind, and sail). Dr. Shenkin has worked on several development projects in Central America, was a member of the City of Eugene's Toxic Right-to-Know Board for six years, and brings a critical international perspective to studying the links between political economy and ecological crises.
