WebAdvisor Troubleshooting

Below is a list of the most common problems reported using WebAdvisor.

  1. "You have entered an invalid password. Please try again."

You have a webadvisor account but entered a wrong password. Use the Lose Your Password link on the page. This will email your original password to you. Note: if you have changed your password and forgotten it, you will need to contact the registrar's office.
  2. "User not found in the registry. Please contact your System Administrator."

This means the account name you used doesn't exist. there have been numerous instances of people putting @linfield.edu on the end of their account name which is understandable but incorrect. Check that first. Your login should be the same as your email username. Not everyone who has an email address has access to WebAdvisor. If you are staff, administration or faculty, see Linda in Administrative Computing and fill out a FERPA form. Otherwise the registrar's office can add students to the system.
  3. Login box and password box do not appear on the login page..

The screen will just hang on the menu. This indicates a server problem. Fill out and submit the trouble form above.
  4. "Unable to process request. This may be due to a cataloging error. Please see you System Administrator." This is a new error that we are working to resolve. You shouldn't see this error often, but if you do follow the instructions from #3.
  5. Time out problems.

Users should also be aware that after about 15 minutes or inactivity, they will be logged off. In other words, they must have hit the submit button in the last 15 minutes. This is important for faculty members to know when entering grades. If they have a big class, they sould enter some grades, submit, and then enter some more. Otherwise, they could lose the grades they entered.
  6. "java.net.ConnectException error"

Check the time. We take the server down around 1AM for backups every night. If the time isn't between 1 and 2 in the morning follow the instructions in #3. If it is between 1 and 2 a.m. go to bed.
