The future is bright for BSN and MSN nurses
Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow by 7% between 2019 and 2029, faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Over the next decade, healthcare systems anticipate two major trends that require more nurses in the field:
- An increasingly aging population (and the related growth of chronic care conditions such as arthritis, dementia, diabetes and obesity)
- An increase in long-term care facilities and outpatient/home health care centers.
While the growth is expected to happen across the nursing field, the data has shown that nurses with more education can advance their nursing careers to positions where they have more control over their working conditions and move more quickly into leadership positions.
Nurses with a bachelor’s degree or higher are more likely to develop stronger:
- Critical-thinking skills
- Communication skills
- Organizational skills
- Patient care outcomes
