Michelle York Adjunct Professor

Potter Hall
Michelle has taught mathematics at the elementary and middle school levels and currently teaches middle school math in Portland. She incorporates her experience with STEM, AVID and culturally responsive teaching to ensure students experience an authentic, engaging and joyful experience as they embrace their inner mathematician. As a mentor for teacher candidates, she maintains focus on standards and formative assessment, while keeping a dialogue going with students to revise and improve instructional practices. She encourages teacher candidates to be innovative and advance collaborative learning in ways that support building community in the classroom, creating authentic learning experiences, and shaping learning as a joyful experience for students and teachers.
She is a National Board Certified Teacher in mathematics and the positive impact of this professional development experience influenced her doctoral research on the impact of the edTPA on novice teacher practices in assessment.
