Why pre-orientation?
Linfield believes that connecting students to peers, faculty and resources before classes start is instrumental to confidence-building and overall success. Come meet fellow Wildcats, build relationships with mentors and explore your community at pre-orientation.
Sign up for a pre-orientation group through the Linfield admission portal. Some programs may have additional fees.
Academic readiness and preparation
The Linfield Summer Academy is a preparatory program for incoming students, focusing on academic readiness, resource and network building, through faculty-led courses and support sessions in key subjects and student services. It aims to ease the transition into college, offering a simulated week of university life to foster familiarity with campus culture and academic expectations.

Enact change through service
Ignite offers incoming students the opportunity to engage with the Linfield, McMinnville and Yamhill County communities by completing meaningful and tangible acts of service. Past projects have included building a home with Habitat for Humanity, serving a local youth respite home, and volunteering at a nearby farm that focuses on community outreach and sustainability.
Where you come FIRST
Linfield's First Scholars program was developed specifically for students who are the first in their families to attend college. You are paired with a faculty or staff mentor and peer mentor to help you navigate your first year at Linfield. During pre-orientation, you'll participate in leadership games and activities, take a trip to the Oregon coast and become familiar with campus alongside other first-generation students.
Focus your passion
Begin your Linfield experience with an immersion in science and math! You'll meet other Linfield students and various faculty members who are passionate about science. Conduct a new mini-research project each day to explore the world around you. Why not study ecology by camping on the Oregon coast? Or learn more about marine biology?
Ready to tell an entertaining story?
Kick off your college experience by flexing those storytelling muscles! Learn the basics of podcasting and tell an entertaining and engaging story by developing, recording and editing either a fiction or non-fiction podcast. Fiction podcasts will tell a classic story through acting, narration, sound effects and music. Non-fiction productions will create a traditional non-fiction podcast through interviews, information and voiceover.

Let's go WILD
Linfield is surrounded by forests, rivers, mountain ranges and beaches. You can experience all of these with your peers through exciting outdoor activities during Wilderness Immersion and Leadership Development (WILD). Spend time hiking and kayaking in areas not far from campus, while building friendships before classes even begin.
