Keynote Guest Lecture: "AI Broke the College Degree (And Higher Ed Matters More Than Ever)"
Presented by Patrick Dempsey, EdD, Loyola University Maryland
Historically, education has been organized around transferring relatively scarce knowledge. As AI makes expertise instant and abundant, that traditional model no longer creates a meaningful advantage. This keynote argues that education's real purpose is to create the conditions through which people can develop the knowledge, skills, abilities, and virtue to do wonderful (and uncommon) things—and asks how institutions can reclaim that purpose in the age of AI. The talk closes by reimagining the roles of students, faculty, courses, and campuses around a new signal of value: not what students know, but how they are able to build, solve, and contribute in a world increasingly being automated out of meaning.
4:30 - 6 p.m. - Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium

Annual Student Symposium
Students from the BNMG 486 course (Artificial Intelligence and I: Mindset for the AI Age) will synthesize their learning by developing and delivering a professional oral presentation at the Linfield Student Symposium. Each student will present their capstone project — demonstrating their ability to integrate course concepts, reflect on personal and professional growth, and articulate the impact of AI on their field or community.
