English Language Skills Courses: Intermediate Level

This non-credit program is not eligible for Title IV funding.

Improve English language skills in preparation to take English placement tests like the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

  • These four-week sessions allow you to study when it's convenient for you.
  • Each session includes 27 hours of practice, weekly due dates for assignments and a final practice test.
  • Receive personal written feedback from your instructor.
  • Synchronous online discussions are scheduled two or four times throughout the course with mostly asynchronous coursework.
  • Internet access and a device with a mic and camera are required.

Program Details

Reading and Writing

The reading and writing courses focus on building academic vocabulary, identifying views and logic, learning the structure and directions of both tests, writing both short and long answers using complete sentences, practicing writing sentences, paragraphs and short essays, and identifying main ideas and types of details.

 

Listening and Speaking

The listening and speaking courses focus on listening to conversations in social and academic contexts, discriminating between test answer choices, learning the structure and directions of both tests, and speaking in response to both written and spoken questions.

English Language Test Preparation courses at Linfield University are not for credit. Intermediate courses are aimed at IELTS 4.5-6.0 or TOEFL 60-75. Choose to focus on listening, speaking, reading or writing skills. Please contact our office with additional questions.
