WSET Level 1 Award in Wines

This introductory course is designed to be the perfect starting point for wine enthusiasts looking to grasp the fundamentals or anyone embarking on a career in the world of wine and hospitality. You will gain the skills to describe wines accurately, learn the systematic approach to tasting wine, and master the basic principles of wine and food pairing.

The exam is delivered online, at the date and time listed, and requires a stable high speed internet connection, a second internet enabled device (smart phone or tablet) and a private space in your home or office.

In-course support & feedback are provided by a UK based WSET Instructor and there is a pre-Exam live remote support session with a Linfield WSET instructor. 

Cost: $250 includes course materials and exam.
For an additional $125, a WSET-approved Wine Sample Kit of the 10 wines listed in the Level 1 course specification can be purchased during registration and shipped directly to you

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

An comprehensive course covering the fundamentals of grape growing and wine production, key regulatory factors, important international and regional grape varieties and the styles of wine they produce.

Ideal for those with prior wine industry experience or well-versed wine enthusiasts. Level 1 is not a pre-requisite for registration but is strongly recommended for those with no prior experience or education.

The total qualification time for the Level 2 Award in Wines is 28 hours; including 17 guided learning hours and  a recommended 11 hours of private study.

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines

For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. The total qualification time for the Level 3 Award in Wines is 84 hours, made up of 32.5 guided learning hours, (including the 2.5 hour examination) and 51.5 hours private study. It is recommended that for all WSET Level 3 course formats you have read the book once prior to the first day of class. It is recommended that WSET Level 3 candidates have completed the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, or an equivalent level of knowledge prior to registration for Level 3. For more insight see our FAQ.

Fee Structure for Replacements and Exam Services

  • Linfield University WSET Fee Policy

    Linfield University strives to cultivate students so that they are prepared to pass on exam day. The reality is that life sometimes gets in the way, resulting in missed exams, classes, and reprioritization. There are associated fees that correlate to registration and exam changes and these fees can be found by course below.

    Reschedule  

    For in person classes and exams, please let us know that you will need to change your exam date 12 business days prior to scheduled exam. For online classes please let us know that you will not be able to attend the class 10 business days prior to the beginning of class. For online exams please reschedule 20 business days prior to your scheduled exam. Rescheduling outside of these timeframes will incur the associated reschedule fees below.

    Resits

    For resits we offer the opportunity for candidates to sit with upcoming scheduled exams. Please contact us to schedule you on these predetermined dates. Associated fees will be charged at the point of registration for the resit exam.

    Result Enquiry

    If you receive a failing grade or want to enquire about your results, you have within 10  business days to file a result enquiry form and pay the associated fee to receive more information from WSET.

    Replacement of Pin or Certificate

    Certificates and pins can get lost in the mail, at times WSET may leave out pins or a name may need to be altered. You may lose your certificates and pins in a move or fire etc. If the candidate requests a new certificate the cost is $38 for candidates who have graduated post 1990. For candidates prior to 1990 the cost is $65. For pins the cost is $7. Linfield University and WSET share the cost on items lost in the mail or issues relating to clerical errors, including name changes. Candidates only incur these costs if they have lost the certificate or pin once they have been received by the candidate.
