Individual Counseling

Linfield offers a variety of counseling options tailored to meet the needs of the individual. Students can schedule individual counseling appointments by coming in person to Walker 103 and speaking with the office manager, or by calling 503-883–2535. Appointments are not made through e-mail because confidentiality cannot be assured. Walk-in appointments are sometimes available on a first-come basis.

If long-term therapy is indicated, the Counseling staff will help the student to access such services off-campus.

Linfield offers consultation services to the McMinnville campus of Linfield College. Examples of consultation include a student worried about a roommate who seems depressed, a professor concerned about a student who is not coming to class, or a residence life staff member with questions about how to support a resident dealing with the death of a grandparent. Consultation appointments are scheduled by coming in person to Walker 103 and speaking with the office manager, or by calling 503-883-2535. Walk-in appointments are sometimes available.

Group Activities

Counseling and psycho-educational groups are offered on a variety of topics. In the past, groups have been offered on topics such as managing stress and anxiety, women’s issues, food and mood, grief and loss, and writing through trauma. Students interested in joining a group or exploring the formation of a group are invited to talk with one of the counselors.

Counseling staff members are available to present programs and training for residence halls and other groups on campus. Popular program topics include learning to de-stress, developing better sleep habits, communicating effectively, and handling homesickness. Other programs are also possible with sufficient advance notice. Please contact the Student Health, Wellness, and Counseling with program requests.
