The Linfield Wildcats will learn their NCAA division III playoff destination Monday morning, May 6.
Linfield players, coaches and fans will learn together where the Wildcats will be competing when the regional playoffs begin on Thursday, May 9 or Friday, May 10. The NCAA plans to stream a live internet selection show on Monday starting at 7 a.m. PDT on NCAA.com. Viewers will want to have Microsoft Silverlight software, a free download, installed on their computers prior to viewing.
The Wildcats won 36 of 42 games this spring, capturing the program’s 10th consecutive conference crown and securing a 10th straight NCAA playoff berth.
The most recent NCAA regional rankings, released May 2, show Linfield ranked third in the West Region, trailing Texas-Tyler and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Regional rankings are among several criteria used in objectively evaluate and rank teams for possible playoff consideration.
The West Region rankings also include Redlands, East Texas Baptist, Pacific Lutheran, La Verne and Chapman. Earlier this season, Linfield lost 2-0 to Claremont-M-S at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, swept PLU in five meetings this spring, split a doubleheader with Chapman, and swept La Verne.
Linfield is currently ranked sixth in the NFCA Top 25 poll, however, those rankings bear no weight in the playoff selection process. The Wildcats have been ranked among the top 10 nationally all season.
