6/5/2008 Linfield College newspaper places at statewide competition

McMINNVILLE – The Linfield Review, the Linfield College student-run newspaper, earned 13 awards at the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association 2008 Collegiate Newspaper Contest.

The Linfield Review was recognized in several categories including second place in general excellence and best design.

First place awards went to the following students: junior Lizzie Martinez of Salt Lake City, Utah, and junior Nicki Tyska of Central Point for best headline writing; Martinez for best series; sophomore Katelyn Krygowski of Auburn, Calif., for best photography; and junior Ryan Gerdes of Corvallis for best graphic.

Second place awards went to senior Jillian Beaudry of Bellevue, Wash., for best news story and best series; sophomore Keegan Bassett of Seattle, Wash., for best cartooning; and junior Claire Oliver of Lake Oswego for best house ad. Honorable mention went to senior Stacey Barchenger of Salem for best writing and freshman Jordan Jacobo of Salem for best photography.

The ONPA was founded in 1887 and is a professional association of the state's newspapers. The Oregon Newspapers Foundation was incorporated in 1978 as the educational and development arm of ONPA.
