1/3/2008 Hartman earns Oregon educators award

McMINNVILLE – Linfield College senior Kimberly Hartman of McMinnville earned the Student Teacher Award from the Yamhill County chapter of the Oregon Retired Educators' Association.

Hartman received $1,000 to defray costs associated with her student-teaching experience, such as clothing, transportation and special teaching materials.

Hartman, an elementary education major, student taught second grade at Grandhaven Elementary School in the fall. She plans to student teach full time in the spring in a fourth grade classroom at Carlton Elementary School.

Hartman is the daughter of Ann Hartman of McMinnville and Ted Hartman of Oakland. She is a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority and has helped raise money for the National Kidney Foundation and the Better-a-Life Foundation. She is also a member of Kappa Delta Phi, an education honor society. Last year, Hartman spent fall semester studying at the University of Nottingham in England, part of Linfield's study abroad program.

After graduation in May, Hartman hopes to begin her teaching career in Yamhill County. Ultimately, she would like to earn a master's degree in school counseling.
