1/31/2007 Northwest author to present reading

McMINNVILLE -- Amalia Gladhart, the translator of "The Potbellied Virgin," will present a reading Monday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield College.

"The Potbellied Virgin" was written by Alicia Yanez Cossio, one of Ecuador's foremost contemporary novelists. Gladhart is an associate professor of Spanish at the University of Oregon, and is also the author of "The Leper in Blue: Coercive Performance and the Contemporary Latin American Theater." She has traveled extensively in Ecuador, the setting for "The Potbellied Virgin." Gladhart has a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a Ph. D. from Cornell. Her research and teaching interests include 20th century Latin American literature, theatre and feminist studies.
