9/14/2006 Student, alumni homecoming events set at Linfield

McMINNVILLE - Linfield College students and alumni are gearing up for the annual homecoming celebration September 25-30.

Student activities will begin Monday, Sept. 25, with a tug-of-war at 5 p.m. on the Linfield intramural field. On Tuesday, Sept. 26, students can participate in the College Bowl at 5 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall. Activities will continue Wednesday, Sept. 27, with the Mr. and Ms. Linfield contest at 8 p.m. in Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall. On Thursday, Sept. 28, a pep rally with a song and banner contest will be held at 8 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. A barbecue followed by a concert will be held Friday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. on the intramural field.

Alumni homecoming activities begin Friday, Sept. 29, with registration in Jereld R. Nicholson Library from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alumni can enjoy "A Sampling of Linfield's Finest" at 5:30 p.m. at McMinnville's Grand Ballroom, 325 NE 3rd St. Linfield President Thomas Hellie and Presidents Emeriti Vivian Bull and Charles Walker will be on hand, along with many Linfield professors. Alumni will have the opportunity to bid on a silent auction. A few of the alumni-donated items include golf trips, Seattle Sonics basketball tickets, wine and art.

Linfield Alumni Awards will also be presented during the Friday evening event. Recipients include Dick Hughes, class of 1975, Alumni Service Award; Dave Hansen, Walker Service Award; Peter Fisher, class of 1996, Young Alumnus Award; and John Creasman, class of 1959, Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Registration will continue Saturday, Sept. 30, in Nicholson Library from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A 5K fun run or two-mile walk around the Linfield campus with President Hellie and his wife, Julie Olds, will be offered at 8:30 a.m. beginning at Nicholson Library.

Other Saturday activities include the alumni barbecue at 11:30 a.m. outside Renshaw Hall. The football team will face Willamette University at 1:30 p.m., before which the all-alumni choir will perform the "Star Spangled Banner." An all-alumni dinner will be offered at 5:30 p.m. at McMinnville's Grand Ballroom, 325 NE 3rd St. The evening will also include alumni reunion dinners on Saturday for the classes of 1956, 1976, and 1986 and Phi Sigma Sigma sorority.
