5/6/2005 Two Linfield seniors set to give recitals

McMINNVILLE - Two Linfield College music students will present senior composition recitals in the upcoming weeks.

Erin O’Loughlin of Huson, Mont., will present a recital Friday, May 13, at 8 p.m. in Melrose Auditorium. Beth Kumbalek of North Bend, Wash., will present a recital on Sunday, May 15, at 4 p.m. in Melrose Auditorium.

O’Loughlin will perform all of her own compositions, accompanied by other Linfield students. The performance will feature strings, brass, percussion, woodwinds and vocals. O’Loughlin will play guitar, baritone saxophone and percussion.

O’Loughlin, a music composition and theory major, is a 2001 graduate of Frenchtown High School. At Linfield she has been involved with several musical groups including the Linfield Community Concert Band, the Jazz Band and the Wind Symphony. In spring of 2004, she was selected to the College Band Directors National Association Honor Band in Reno, Nev. After graduation, O’Loughlin plans to join AmeriCorps and then pursue a graduate degree.

Kumbalek, who plays French horn, piano and guitar, will also perform all of her own compositions and be accompanied by other Linfield students and faculty. The recital will feature strings, percussion, woodwinds, brass and vocals.

Kumbalek, a music composition major, is a 2001 graduate of Mt. Si High School. During her time at Linfield, Kumbalek has been involved with several musical groups including the Linfield Community Band, the Brass Ensemble, the Woodwind Quintet, the Wind Symphony, the Horn Quintet and the Linfield Chamber Orchestra. After graduation, Kumbalek would like to stay in the Portland area and find a musically oriented job.
