McMINNVILLE ? Dan Preston, dean of enrollment management and director of financial aid for Linfield College, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Oregon Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) during their recent annual meeting.

The award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to OASFAA and to the financial aid profession over a period of time, or has made an outstanding one-time contribution to OASFAA and/or the financial aid profession. Preston is the 11th person to receive the award since 1990.

Preston has been a member of OASFAA since 1987. He has served as president of the organization, was newsletter editor, served on several conference committees and as the independent college representative on the executive council. He has been involved in developing training programs and currently co-chairs "Financial Aid 101," a one-day training session for individuals new to the financial aid profession. Crisanne Werner, associate director of financial aid at Linfield, co-chairs the program with him. For the past six years he has appeared on "Financial Aid for College," a program produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting and designed to help students currently enrolled in college or those planning to attend learn more about the financial aid process.

Preston has been on the Linfield staff since 1983. He was named director of financial aid in 1992 and was named dean in 2000. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Linfield and a master’s degree from Western Washington University.
