9/9/2003 Linfield graduate to speak on reporting about the war in Iraq

McMINNVILLE – Scott Nelson, a 1994 graduate of Linfield College and a staff writer at the Boston Globe, will speak on "Embedded in History: Reporting Ground Zero and the Invasion of Iraq" Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Melrose Auditorium.

After graduating from Linfield, Nelson was a reporter at Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine and editor of He was personal finance editor at the Tampa Tribune and moved to the Globe to write about finance companies. His broad interests led him to volunteer for other types of stories, and in his position as staff writer he has covered a wide variety of events, including the immediate aftermath of Sept. 11 and the invasion of Iraq as an embedded reporter.

Nelson has also done broadcast reporting, including a weekly personal finance segment on WFLA-TV in Tampa, work on New England Cable in Boston, and a number of reports on National Public Radio. During the three weeks of active war in Iraq, he reported for CNN and CNN International.

While he was at Linfield, Nelson was a communication major and editor of the Linfield Review.
