General Admission Information
Admission to the School of Nursing
A prerequisite GPA of 3.000 is necessary to apply to the Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing. This is calculated on all prerequisite courses complete at the time of application. (The prerequisite GPA of 3.000 must be maintained through completion of all prerequisite courses.)
A letter grade of “C” or higher is required for prerequisites and transfer.
Transfer students applying for entry Spring 2019 or later will be subject to additional minimum requirements:
- Minimum 3.000 GPA in prerequisite science courses (biology or chemistry, anatomy & physiology, microbiology)
- Minimum 2.700 GPA in prerequisite anatomy & physiology courses
- Only one repeated grade for any anatomy or physiology course will be used in the calculation of the minimum GPA requirements. In the case where a student has more than one repeat on a single course, only the grade from the first repeated course will be used. A "W" or withdrawal from either an anatomy or physiology course will be counted as an attempt under this rule.
Minimum application requirements: 11 semester (16 quarter) credits in the sciences (biology/chemistry, anatomy & physiology, microbiology) and all other prerequisite courses must be complete at the time of application for admission consideration.
Admission is highly competitive. The goal of the admission process is to form a community of learners with the potential to succeed in a rigorous academic program and develop essential skills required for nursing practice.
First degree students must have junior standing (62 semester or 93 quarter transferable credits) prior to enrollment in the nursing program. A student may be admitted with less than junior standing on the presumption that the minimum completed credit requirement will be attained prior to entering the nursing program. Students who do not have 62 semester (93 quarter) transferable credits complete will not be allowed to begin the program and their admission will be cancelled. Please refer to the application calendar to determine when these credits must be completed. If you are enrolled in or registered for courses at the time of admission and are considering dropping courses, consult the enrollment services office to determine the impact this may have on your admission and completion of degree requirements. Remember, your BSN degree consists of both your transfer coursework and the nursing courses you complete at Linfield.
There are three start dates each year: summer for students who hold a bachelor’s degree at the time of application, fall and spring for students with and without a prior bachelor’s degree. (Start terms and cohorts are subject to change.) Approximately two hundred students are admitted each academic year based on educational background, grade point average, progress toward completion of prerequisite courses, and available space.
An applicant holding a bachelor’s degree by the application deadline will be considered for the accelerated BSN program, provided that all prerequisite course requirements will be completed by the stipulated deadline for the summer term.
Students seeking their first bachelor’s degree may apply to the start date of their preference, either fall or spring. First degree students must qualify as juniors (62 semester credits or 93 quarter credits of transferable coursework) at the time of enrollment, and are expected to complete general education courses as required by the college. It is recommended that the majority of these be completed prior to matriculation.
See the application calendar for application period dates.
