David Dodson ’62 of Santa Cruz, Calif., was elected president of the University of California Santa Cruz Retirees Association for the 2013-14 term. He serves as an advocate for retirees and develops programs that meet their needs and interests. Gary Vaughan ’63 of Portland published his memoir, God on Drums, A Journey of Faith. Mary (Drake) Dettmann ’64 of Milwaukie is president/treasurer of the board and volunteers for Rehab Sisters, an organization which provides support to women impacted by the sex industry, substance abuse, domestic violence and homelessness. Linaya Leaf ’65 of Billings, Mont., is retiring as professor of English and theatre at Rocky Mountain College. Carolyn (Crooker) Anderson ’66 of Oakesdale, Wash., and her husband Donald will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year. George Murdock ’66 of Pendleton was elected Umatilla County commissioner in May. Robert Webber ’66 of Port Orford is an Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commissioner. Tim and Emily (Gire) Duerfeldt ’67 and ’66 of McMinnville have retired from teaching. She was academic advisor at the McMinnville School District and he taught at Chemeketa Community College. Anne (Northrup) Engen ’67 of McMinnville is a member of the National Family and Community Education Board. 1970-79 Bill Hance ’74 of Mount Vernon, Wash., is retiring from teaching at Burlington-Edison High School. Louann (Johnston) Reid ’74 of Fort Collins, Colo., is chair of the English Department at Colorado State University and chair of the Conference on English Education, a national organization of English teacher educators. Ron and Jeanette (Hanna) Mitchell, both ’76, live in Vista, Calif. Ron is a CPA with Grice, Lund & Tarkington and Jeanette is a teacher at Carleston Community Church. Howard Werth ’76 of Portland was named the large private company chief financial officer of the year by the Portland Business Journal. He is the CFO for Leupold & Stevens Inc. Karen (Sasse) Brodbeck ’77 of Newtown, Conn., is director of retirement investments for Nestle USA in Stamford, Conn. Sylvia Guistina ’77 of Portland works as a tour guide for the Portland Double Decker Bus Tour. Margie (Hyland) Williams ’79 of McMinnville, along with her husband, Dave, owns Dave’s Auto Service. They have been married 33 years. 1980-89 Dwayne and Vicky (Corliss) Brown ’80 and ’81 live in Winchester. Dwayne is clinical staff chaplain at the VA Roseburg Healthcare System in Roseburg. Anthony Vidal ’81 of Sykesville, Md., is an ordained Roman Catholic priest. Sanny Cameli ’85 of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, received her Ed.D. from Argosy University, Hawaii Campus, in June. She was one of three student speakers addressing those attending and represented the doctoral candidates. She is working with new teachers and mentors in West Hawaii schools on the Big Island. Elizabeth Rothan ’85 of Lakeland, Fla., is a teacher and head of the acting department at Harrison School of the Arts. Joe Alward ’86 of Eagle River, Alaska, teaches and coaches track and cross country in the Anchorage School District. Wray Hoskamer ’88 of Navarre, Fla., retired from the U.S. Air Force in September after serving 23 years. Sean Germon ’89 of La Jolla, Calif., is a real estate broker with Harcourts Prestige Properties and builds sustainable houses. Ramona (Cordes) Saatkamp ’89 of Vancouver, Wash., has been a nurse and lactation consultant at Legacy Health for 25 years. Fred Thompson ’89 of Salem is a financial advisor for New York Life. 1990-99 Thomas Preble ’90 of Beaverton married Cheryl Norton July 28. David Chicks ’91 of Redmond, Wash., works for VoiceBox. Tracy Klein ’91 of Portland was inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in recognition of her state, national and international policy work in nursing. She is currently on the faculty of the graduate school of nursing at Washington State University and is a fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She spent 15 years as a policy analyst for advance practice nursing at the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Teresa (Koons) Burfine ’93 of San Juan Bautista, Calif., is working on a master’s degree to become a family nurse practitioner. Joe and Jill (Wilkens) Wilkins ’93 and ’94 of Portland had a daughter, Rachel Maren, May 5. Mary (Zilk) Gregg ’94 of Bend is the owner of Big Cat Sticker Shack. Danelle Putnam ’96 of Tillamook received a Bethesda Lutheran Communities Scholastic and Service Scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year. Putnam is a graduate student at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind., pursuing a master’s degree in deaconess studies. Melissa “Violeta” (Truax) Reid ’96 of Canby teaches Spanish language in the fifth grade at a dual language immersion school. Jennifer Thompson ’96 of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is manager of brand communications and community partnerships for Triple Flip, a clothing company. Kevin Gienger ’97 of Salem is the managing partner of Boldt, Carlisle & Smith LLC. Brooks (Distefano) English ’98 of Portland and her husband, Jamieson, had a child, Quinn Avery, Sept. 3. Jamaal El-Khal ’98 of Chico, Calif., is a senior physician at Ampla- Health Oroville Medical and Dental. Denise (Trayler) Fall ’98 of Portland is the nurse executive at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. She provides nursing oversight and leadership for more than 500 nurses. Lane Hartill ’98 of Milton, Mass., is director of emergency media and communications at Save the Children. He has worked on emergencies in Haiti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Mali. He previously worked at Catholic Relief Services and was based in Dakar, Senegal. He’s written for the Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe. Bonnie Roseman ’98 of Portland is acting in independent films and advertising. David Spicer ’98 of Bend is working on a master’s degree at Southern New Hampshire University. Candi Carter Olson ’99 of Pittsburgh, Pa., completed a Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh and is an assistant professor in the Journalism and Communication Department at Utah State University. Stephanie Routh ’99 of Portland resigned as executive director of the nonprofit Oregon Walks.
