Blue Lynx Prize for Poetry goes to Wilkins

Joe WilkinsJoe Wilkins, associate professor of English at Linfield College, has won the 2018 Blue Lynx Prize for his poetry collection, “Thieve.”  

Publisher Lynx House Press has run the book-length poetry contest since 1998. The prize comes with an award of $2,000 and publication of the winning manuscript.   Continue reading

Inaugural Scott B. Smith award presented to Valdes

Greta ValdesGretel Valdes ’21 has been named the winner of the inaugural Scott B. Smith Award at Linfield College.

Created by the family of the late Professor Scott Smith and funded by hundreds of people who were influenced by Smith, the award is given annually to a first-year student in the Linfield inquiry seminar program (INQS) whose intellect, participation and achievement most exemplify the process of genuine and passionate intellectual inquiry. ‘Language, Memory and Story’ topic of Joe Wilkins faculty lecture

Professor Joe WilkinsJoe Wilkins, associate professor of English at Linfield College, will present “Language, Memory and Story: Writing Across the Genres” on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Fred Meyer Lounge in Riley Hall at Linfield.  

“We carry deep in our bones the impulse to fit language to the world,” said Wilkins. “Song and story were our first arts.”
