Students, families take part in national day of service

Make a Differenece Day 2015Armed with rakes, shovels, rags and cleaning supplies, Linfield College students canvassed Yamhill County to volunteer their time and energy during Make A Difference Day Saturday, Oct. 24.

This year, Make A Difference Day took place during Linfield’s Family Weekend, so some students were joined by their families in various community service activities.

“It’s a great way to give back to the community and to make a difference,” said sophomore Hannah Ellsworth, a nursing major and director of Days of Service and Special Events for Linfield’s Change Corps. “I am passionate about community service. This position was the perfect way for me to share that passion with the entire campus.”

Participants served at the McMinnville Co Op, McMinnville Community Garden, Yamhill County Gospel Rescue Mission at Discovery Meadows Park, McMinnville Public Library, Tice Woods and McMinnville Community Center.

Make A Difference Day, the largest community service effort in the U.S., prompts corporations, government leaders, charitable organizations and individuals to volunteer and perform service projects for one day. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.
