Sivek offers advice for media students

Susan Curry SivekSusan Currie Sivek, assistant professor of mass communication, provided advice for journalism and media students in a recent piece on PBS MediaShift.

Sivek encouraged students to prepare for the professional world with a portfolio of work that demonstrates skills.

“You need a sleek, versatile digital residence that can host all the forms of media you’ve learned,” said Sivek, who is a regular contributor to the PBS MediaShift site. “Your portfolio site should also grow with your career so that you always have an online home for your own digital identity, beyond whatever your employer may provide.”

Sivek provided portfolio design tools suitable for all kinds of media, from plain-text documents to videos. But whatever portfolio platform is used, strong content is the key, she said.
