Watching young men walk around in high heels may be unusual, but for the right cause the men of Linfield College’s Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity are all for it.
The Delta Rho chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha will host the second “Walk a Mile in her Shoes” men’s walk to stop rape, sexual assault and gender-based violence against women. The event will be on Saturday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside of Riley Hall at Linfield College.
Anyone is welcome to join the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity members by wearing a pair of high heels and walking a mile around campus, or by simply donating money to the cause. All of the proceeds from this event will go to The Henderson House, McMinnville’s domestic violence shelter. Last year the members of Pi Kappa Alpha raised $5,583 for the Henderson House and are hoping to raise $7,500 this year.
“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” began in 2001 when a small group of men dared to walk around a park in high heels. Since then, it has grown to become a world-wide movement with tens of thousands of men raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence education, prevention and remediation programs. This event is an attempt to increase awareness about sexual violence against women.
