Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and statewide prohibitions on large gatherings, Linfield Commencement 2020 has been postponed until July 25-26. It was originally scheduled for May 31.
A final decision on the date was made following a poll of soon-to-be graduates and Linfield faculty members.
Degrees will officially be conferred as planned on May 29, the last day of the spring semester, and May 29, 2020 will also be the date that appears on all transcripts and diplomas.
“I’m sorry for our graduates and their families, and for the whole Linfield community,” said President Miles K. Davis. “We would rather postpone it than cancel it or hold a virtual ceremony, however. We sincerely hope we can all come together a little later this year, but still come together, to celebrate this important milestone in the lives of our graduates.”
President Davis addressed the issue in a video message to the Linfield community.
Linfield is an independent, non-profit university with campuses in McMinnville and Portland, Oregon. Twenty-eight percent of Linfield students are first-generation college students, and more than one-third are U.S. students of color. The U.S. State Department has honored Linfield for being a top producer of Fulbright Scholars three years in a row.
