Holiday traditions: Foie gras and champagne for Noel

Clement HossaertWith Christmas and New Year’s coming up, Clement Hossaert has been thinking about how he grew up celebrating the holidays with his family in northern France.

Enjoying capon, foie gras and his dad’s freshly prepared Coquilles St. Jacques during a Christmas lunch with his grandparents. Watching his favorite Christmas movies, the Disney version of “A Christmas Carol” with Scrooge McDuck and “The Santa Clause” with Tim Allen.

His holiday traditions are summarized in this News-Register story.

Hossaert, 23, is spending the year at Linfield College as a Fulbright teaching assistant, one of four foreign language teaching assistants at the college. He said he’s here to improve his English while helping Linfield students master French.

Hossaert received his master’s degree in French, European and American literature from the Université de Lille III Charles de Gaulle. As a teaching assistant for beginning and advanced French classes, he is in charge of two weekly conversation classes and meets individually, and informally, with Linfield French students.

“My role is to take care of conversation classes,” said Hossaert. “Students meet with me once a week and we are able to talk about anything.”
