The presidents representing Linfield and eight other colleges and universities in the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference released plans Wednesday for fall athletics teams.
Cross country, golf and tennis will compete in the fall, with safety protocols in place to mitigate effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball will be postponed until spring, with schedules and details to be released at a later date. All of the teams that normally compete in the fall will be allowed to practice and meet, in accordance with NCAA rules and directives from state and local health officials.
The presidents will determine what to do about winter sports like basketball and swimming later, as more information becomes available.
“Nobody is happy about having to postpone their seasons,” said Linfield Athletic Director Garry Killgore. “But the conference has a plan to allow student-athletes to compete, and the Linfield coaches and athletes will work toward that. We will take precautions, we will listen to and follow the recommendations of health officials and we will, as of now, plan to be on the fields of competition when the time comes.”
