Mhondoro – Zimbabwe-inspired jazz group – performs free concert Feb. 8
Mhondoro, a rising favorite in the Pacific Northwest jazz scene, brings its globally inspired jazz music to Linfield University in February. The quintet will perform the music off their debut album, “Heat Wave,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium inside Melrose Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
BLOOM exhibition from Belle Bezdicek runs Feb. 8-March 24 in Linfield Gallery
“BLOOM,” an exhibit by Lacroute Visiting Professor of Digital Art Belle Bezdicek, will run Feb. 8-March 24 in the Linfield Art Gallery, with an artist talk and opening reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the Vivian Bull Music Center.
Bezdicek teaches and develops curriculum around digital art; while her work is primarily in that medium, this exhibit will also include physical creations, including printmaking and woodwork, many of which are integrated into her digital art. Continue reading
Third Angle brings contemporary classical, new student compositions to Linfield Nov. 30 and Dec. 1
Third Angle, a Portland-based group that plays contemporary classical music, will perform two concerts at Linfield University and provide masterclasses to students as part of the Lacroute Composer Readings and Chamber Music Mentorship program. The small chamber ensemble will play Wednesday, Nov. 30, then debut original student compositions on Thursday, Dec. 1.

Linfield University will host a pair of acclaimed writers in November as part of its Readings at the Nick series. Both events, held in the Jerald R. Nicholson Library (location), are free and open to the public.
Poet, novelist and essayist Luis Alberto Urrea will read from his most recent novel, “The House of Broken Angels” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Comedic musical ‘Firebringer’ explores climate change with laughter, crass cave art and puppets
Linfield University’s Theatre Program returns to the stage in November for the raunchy, comedic musical, “Firebringer.” Produced in collaboration with the Linfield Department of Music, this viral, indie hit hilariously depicts a tribe of cave people who discover the ability to control fire. This play may not be suitable for all audiences due to adult language and is recommended for ages 13 and older. Please note that fog and haze will be used.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, 11, 12, 17 and 18, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19 in Linfield’s Marshall Theatre. Tickets are $15 for full price; $13 for seniors (62+) and Linfield employees (two tickets per ID); and $10 for students (any school, one ticket per ID). Seating is reserved. Tickets go on sale on Oct. 26 online at linfield.edu/arts and the box office will open Nov. 8. Located in Ford Hall, box office hours will be Tuesday through Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. and until 7:30 p.m. on show nights. It will also be open from noon to 2 on Saturday, Nov. 19. Skye Tafoya exhibition runs Oct. 14-Nov. 18 at Linfield Art Gallery
“my hands remind me of yours/our hands,” an exhibition featuring the creative work of Rhiannon ‘Skye’ Tafoya, will be on display at the Linfield Art Gallery from Oct. 14-Nov. 18, 2022. An opening reception and artist talk, with light refreshments, is at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 in the gallery. Both the monthlong exhibition and the opening reception are free and open to the public.

Heath Quartet and Linfield choirs take the stage in October
Linfield University hosts two musical performances sure to delight audiences in mid-October. Linfield’s vocal ensembles perform at the Fall Choral Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, and the Heath Quartet, a contemporary British chamber ensemble, holds a concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19.
