Student-athletes step up to boost COVID-19 testing on Linfield campusesLinfield University student-athletes helped raise more than $165,000 this fall to support athletics and supplement testing at the school, which already has one of the most rigorous COVID-19 testing regimens in the State of Oregon.

National Public Radio reported in October that more than two out of three colleges in the United States with in-person classes either had no clear testing plan or were testing only students showing symptoms or having had a high risk of exposure. Linfield, which has 1,931 students, is not among them. The university reopened for in-person classes in August with an aggressive coronavirus-mitigation strategy that included providing COVID-19 tests for all students at the start of the semester. Ken Evenstad, co-founder of Domaine Serene Winery and namesake for the Grace and Ken Evenstad Center for Wine Education at Linfield University, passed away peacefully this week.

The Evenstad Center for Wine Education opened in 2018, following an initial $6 million gift from Grace and Ken Evenstad. The center offers a unique interdisciplinary wine studies major and minor for undergraduate students and includes a number of wine-education programs and activities for adult learners. Linfield Theatre explores meaning of democracy with “Democratically Speaking”  

Linfield University’s theatre program presents free livestream performances of “Democratically Speaking” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9-10 on the Linfield Theatre YouTube page.   

The play explores the abstract idea and realities of democracy from its roots in ancient Greece to current times. Using found text originally assembled by Stanford University professor Rush Rehm, the script features wisdom, challenges, calls to action and general musings on the nature of democracy from the perspective of poets, dictators, playwrights, world leaders, philosophers and activists. Updates regarding Linfield’s Title IX policies

Linfield University banner on campusWe have updated our Title IX policies to comply with new federal guidelines and to incorporate recommendations made by the President’s Sexual Assault Task Force. The new Title IX policy can be found here.

An important part of this process has been the creation of a Title IX working group consisting of students, faculty members and staff members to gather feedback, ensure our policies are clear and address the most pressing concerns of all university stakeholders. This group met during the summer with an outside consultant who specializes in Title IX and Oregon Sexual Misconduct Law. Linfield Theatre opens virtual fall season with live sketch comedy show

rehearsal of Out of the Box: A Night of Improvised SketchesLinfield University’s Theatre Program opens its 101st season, themed “A Season Like No Other,” with a pair of live sketch comedy livestreams. Two free performances of “Out of the Box: A Night of Improvised Sketches” debut at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 on the Linfield Theatre YouTube channel. The sketches, which contain mild adult language and adult situations, are recommended for ages 13+.   Continue reading
