Update: As Patrick Starnes, the Independent candidate, has dropped out of the gubernatorial race, Linfield College has cancelled the Nov. 1 talk. 

Linfield College is hosting three gubernatorial candidates next week on its McMinnville campus to discuss civic engagement and political participation, one week before Oregonians go to the polls.  

Nick Chen, Libertarian Party candidate, will speak on Monday, Oct. 29. Rep. Knute Buehler, Republican Party candidate, will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Patrick Starnes, the Independent candidate, will speak on Thursday, Nov. 1.   Continue reading

Linfield College becomes test-optional

Linfield College becomes test-optional; debuts other recruitment initiatives 

Linfield College faculty members voted October 15 to adopt a test-optional policy for admission, joining more than 700 U.S. colleges and universities in no longer requiring prospective students to submit ACT or SAT scores. Scores are allowed as part of an admissions application; just not required.   Continue reading

The first Dr. Jan Selliken Life Transitions Nursing Symposium was held on Wednesday, October 3rd. 76 students and 14 nursing faculty participated.

Linfield student choirs present “Resistance, Revolution, and Renewal”

Linfield College ChoirLinfield College student choirs will perform music from hit Broadway musicals and well-known composers.

“Resistance, Revolution, and Renewal” will explore this year’s Program for Liberal Arts and Civic Engagement (PLACE) theme of “Revolutions” and will connect resistance and revolution in the face of war, oppression and injustice.  The Fall Choir Concert will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. in Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium at Linfield College.

From the great Russian musical tradition, the Hermitage Piano Trio is distinguished by its exuberant musicality, interpretative range, and sumptuous sound.  The group is comprised of violinist Misha Keylin, cellist Sergey Antonov and pianist Ilya Kazantsev.

Leslie L. Zaitz, noted journalist, to speak at Linfield 

Les ZaitzThe newly renamed Journalism and Media Studies department at Linfield College is celebrating the new moniker for its department and major by hosting two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Leslie L. Zaitz on campus.   

Zaitz will present “Regaining Trust — Job No. 1 for the Media” Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 12:15 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall. The event is part of celebrations of renaming of the department and the major from “Mass Communication” to “Journalism and Media Studies.”
