Listening and Speaking
Prepare to take the listening and/or speaking sections of an English Placement test like the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Focus on listening to conversations in social and academic contexts, discriminating between test answer choices, learning the structure and directions of both tests, and speaking in response to both written and spoken questions. Online practice will help you prepare.
Verena Sutherland, M.Ed. with a focus on English for Speakers of Other Languages, has been teaching English language learners of all levels for over 15 years and has in this time helped many students achieve higher scores on language tests, such as the IELTS or TOEFL tests. Having been involved with the IELTS test for over 5 years and having taken the IELTS test herself with a score of a Band 9, she knows what it takes to succeed. In addition to fine-tuning students' listening and speaking skills, she also focuses on improving test-taking skills to help students avoid losing unnecessary points and increase confidence.
Reading and Writing
Prepare to take the reading and/or writing sections of an English Placement test like Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Focus on building academic vocabulary, identifying views and logic, learning the structure and directions of both tests, writing both short and long answers using complete sentences, writing sentences, paragraphs and short essays, and identifying main ideas and types of details. Digital handouts and online readings will help you prepare.
