The seniors graduating from Linfield’s online degree program earned their degrees in the fields of Accounting, Arts and Humanities, Business Information Systems, Management, Marketing, Nursing, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Linfield College conferred degrees to a total of 661 graduating seniors in an outdoor ceremony on the Linfield campus in McMinnville, Oregon, that included graduates of the residential Arts and Sciences campus, the Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing, and the Adult Degree Program.
The Linfield community has been enriched by an especially large group of Latino and Asian/Pacific Island students, and almost a quarter of its students are Americans of color.
The Class of 2013 is one of the most diverse graduating classes in the school’s history. Graduating seniors came from a wide variety of backgrounds, varying in age, origin, sexual orientation and economic class. The Class of 2013 in the Adult Degree Program represents graduates who live in thirteen states.
Most of Linfield’s Adult Degree Program students completed their courses entirely online, which enabled them to balance the demands of work schedules and family responsibilities. As Paula Love, a graduating senior who earned her RN to BSN on June 2, explains, “Linfield provided this opportunity in a way that I could work full time, provide for my family as I am a single parent, and finish my education in a very focused and progressive manner. I have met a lifetime goal with Linfield's help.”
Jay Larsen, who earned his management degree through Linfield’s Adult Degree Program, says the program is distinguished for the quality and commitment of the instructors. “Each of my instructors placed a high value in developing student’s critical thinking and cognitive reasoning skills, which I believe are essential in building a successful career in Management.”
With this major academic achievement under their belts, graduates are poised to launch into the next chapter of their lives. Now that she has earned her accounting degree, recent graduate Erika Williams is ready to sit for the CPA exam and secure long-term employment as a CPA. She says it is never too late to pursue an education: “My father's dying words to me were ‘Take your education as far as you can. You can never learn enough.’ Those are words I try to live by.”
