  • What does the spring academic calendar look like? (updated 10/23/20)

Things will look a little different in 2021. In McMinnville, January Term will become a May Term, with all previously scheduled courses moved to May 3-26, 2021. The start of the spring semester will vary based on what campus you attend. Spring break at all campuses has been eliminated.

    • McMinnville campus: Spring semester will begin on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021 and end Friday, April 30. Mid-week breaks will occur on Feb. 9, March 10 and April 8. Additional details can be found on the academic calendar.
    • Portland campus: Spring semester will start as previously scheduled at our new northeast Portland campus on Monday, Feb. 8 and conclude Thursday, May 20.
    • Online and Continuing Education courses: Spring semester dates coming soon.
  • Will classes be delivered on campus or online in the spring? (updated 10/23/20)

Classes on the McMinnville and Portland campuses will be offered in a mix of formats, including in-person, online and, in some cases, a (hybrid) combination of online and in-person. Online and Continuing Education courses will continue normal operations online.

  • Why was the start date of Jan. 18 chosen for the McMinnville campus? (10/22/20)

With COVID-19 restrictions continuing into 2021, we adjusted our calendar to put into place what worked well in the fall. The Jan. 18 start date allows for the McMinnville campus to have a phased move in and to test all students for COVID-19 upon arrival.

  • What is happening with spring sports? (10/22/20)

Decisions are still forthcoming in relation to the spring sports seasons. President Davis and Linfield Athletics are working closely with the Northwest Conference to ensure the safety of all our student-athletes. More details coming soon.

  • Why is January Term moving to May? (10/22/20)

Our previous start date for January Term would not allow us the time needed for phased move-in and testing. Moving all transitional January Term courses to May allows us the time to bring students back to McMinnville in as safe a way as possible. In addition, all study abroad courses in January were already canceled. Moving to a May Term allows for the possibility of offering those courses if travel restrictions are lifted.

  • Why can’t we have a spring break? (updated 10/23/20)

We are really proud that the “Linfield bubble” has worked well this fall. Students have been great about staying on campus, following safety and health policies and helping the whole community to mitigate risk. Having a long break works against these issues. In lieu of a week off, the McMinnville campus will have designated day-off breaks on Feb. 9, March 10 and April 8. The Portland cmapus is working to create slight breaks for students during the semester. More information to come soon.

  • I am a McMinnville student. Can I still take one OCE course this spring? (10/22/20)

Yes! You are still able to take a course through Online and Continuing Education as part of your schedule. More details about the OCE schedule are coming soon.

  • What are the plans for graduation? (10/22/20)

We are planning to have an event in May – even if it is a drive-in graduation! We will confer degrees when students complete all their requirements at the end of spring and again at the end of May. (Conferring a degree is that date on your transcript that indicates when you compete your work).

  • If I take a May Term course, will I have to stay later in the year than I had been planning? (10/22/20)

No, the new calendar, even including a May Term will finish at the end of the month, so it will not go any later than our traditional calendar.

  • I was planning to take a prerequisite course and/or internship during January Term. What can I do now? (updated 10/23/20)

Departments are aware that there are some courses that will not be available in January Term that serve as a prerequisite course for spring. If you anticipated taking a prerequisite or have an internship arranged for January Term, please work directly with your advisor.

  • I was planning to work over January Term to earn money for school. What can I do now? (updated 10/23/20)

While you will be returning earlier in January than in a normal year, you will also be prepared to start work directly after fall finals with no break to return home. We hope that with this notice, you will be able to balance your schedule with both of these changes.
