The Department of Chemistry offices and laboratories are located in Murdock Hall. Murdock Hall, built in 1982, houses the Departments of Chemistry and Biology. The Department has four main laboratories which are designed for general chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and analytical chemistry with shared facilities for instruction in biochemistry. Most of the laboratories are equipped with numerous computer stations to aid in the collection and processing of experimental data. 


The Chemistry Department strives to provide its faculty and students with current instrumentation for use in classes and in support of ongoing research. The department's instrumentation covers a range of spectrometers, chromatographs, electrochemical equipment, and speciality equipment for characterization of materials.   The chemistry department also maintains collaborations with Linfield's Physics and Biology departments and the Linfield Research Institute (LRI) for access to additional equipment including centrifuges, electron microscope, and surface analysis equipment (Auger, STM, TEM).  In addition, the department maintains its own computer platform for computational methods, LAN, and several clusters of PCs for student use.
