- Linfield College
McMinnville Admission

There’s nothing like actually visiting to get a feel for what a place is really like, especially when it comes to choosing a “home away from home” for four years.

Before you arrive on campus, we hope the information below will help you plan your visit to make the most of your time on campus.

Linfield College is located just over an hour’s drive from Portland and conveniently located to take advantage of all that the Northwest has to offer. After you finish your visit to campus, we encourage you to drop down to the Oregon coast (just 45 minutes away), head up to Mt. Hood for year-round skiing and snowboarding, or head east to check out the outdoor adventures that Bend and central Oregon can offer.

Planning Your Visit

The Office of Admission welcomes prospective students and their families to campus throughout the school year. Even though we know it is hard to get away from school and other activities, visiting Linfield when classes are in session, students are on campus and teams are practicing will give you the best idea of what life is all about at Linfield College. As you plan your visit to Linfield, and likely other colleges in the Pacific Northwest, we hope this information is helpful in making the most of your time. If you have any questions, you may contact us at 800-640-2287 or admission@linfield.edu.

Campus Events

The Office of Admission is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Weekdays, a full range of visit options are available.

During the academic year (September to May, except during breaks), the office is also open Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

On Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters, current Linfield students lead campus tours at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and are available to answer general questions.

For January Term and the spring semester, the Office of Admission will be open on the following Saturdays:

  • January 11, 18, 25
  • February 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
  • March 7, 14, 21, 28
  • April 4, 11, 18, 25
  • May 2, 9, 16

Linfield College observes the following holidays and is closed on:

  • November 20 (Day after Thanksgiving)
  • December 25 (Christmas day)
  • January 1 (New Year's Day)
  • May 26 (Memorial Day)

Linfield College is also closed from December 26 through January 1 for Winter Break. If you will be in the area from out-of-state and wish to tour campus, please contact the Office of Admission at 800.640.2287 or admission@linfield.edu. As the college is closed, a tour may not provide the best view of campus; however, if you are traveling from a distance and this is your only opportunity to visit campus, we will work to accommodate your request.

While almost any day is open for a visit, there are a few days you may want to avoid during the 2019-2020 school year if you wish to include class or faculty visits on your agenda:

  • August 22-September 6 (Fall Orientation and the beginning of classes)
  • October 7-8 (Fall Break)
  • November 25-29 (Thanksgiving Break)
  • December 7-13 (Reading Day through the end of the fall semester)
  • December 14-January 2 (Winter Break)
  • February 10-14 (Beginning of spring classes)
  • March 23-27 (Spring Break)
  • May 21-May 31 (Reading Day through Commencement)

Please also note that high school holidays and other no school days (such as in-service days, and fall or spring breaks) are usually quite busy. Please be prepared to be a part of a larger group tour and presentation, rather than a personal appointment.

January Term: Linfield operates on a 4-1-4 academic calendar. During the month of January, students may opt to take one class that runs for four weeks on-campus, off-campus through the International Programs Office or extend their winter break. Students who complete an on-campus course also have the opportunity to participate in other co-curricular activities. Due to limited course options (all academic classes are four hours per day), visit opportunities may be limited to a campus tour, admission counselor visit, and faculty/coach meetings.

These visits are not considered "interviews" and are not required as part of the admission process. Meetings usually last 30 minutes. If you have specific concerns to discuss (such as academic progress or special needs), please note that you would prefer some time to discuss your questions privately with a counselor.
