Take Action

There are three ways faculty can help with recruitment and retention this week:

  1. Send an Academic Alert to students who are struggling in your courses. See information below for more details.
  2. Call to congratulate your Competitive Scholarship Day winners. Admission will provide contact information upon request.
  3. Call prospective students with interests in your academic programs. 60 faculty members have already volunteered; if you have not already signed up to share your stories, please contact Patrick Wilson at as soon as possible to volunteer.

Promotion, Tenure and Sabbatical Approved

We are pleased to announce that, at the recommendation of the Promotion and Tenure Subcommittee and the endorsement of the President and Dean of Faculty, the Board of Trustees approved tenure and promotion to Associate Professor for Marie Noussi and Paul Smith; and approved promotion to Professor for Pat Cottrell, Rob Gardner, Janet Peterson, John Syring, and Chad Tillberg.

The Board also approved sabbatical requests for Bill Bestor, Henny Breen, Nancy Broshot, Reshmi Dutt-Ballerstadt, Denise Farag, Chris Gaiser, Chris Keaveney, Anna Keesey, Cheryl Langford, Marie Noussi, Janet Peterson, Jeff Peterson, Catherine Reinke, Anna Song, David Sumner, and Jackie Webb.

Open Enrollment

You have received several emails from Human Resources regarding this year’s Open Enrollment. Every employee who is eligible for benefits must complete open enrollment, even if you waive or are not changing your benefits.

Please log in to the benefits portal and follow the instructions on the login page to  complete your enrollment by Friday, March 2 at 5:00 p.m. Contact Betty Henninger or Meg Anderson at x2594 with any questions about this process.

Changes to your benefits take effect on Saturday, April 1. Please refer to the February 19 email from Betty Henninger for detailed information.

Academic Alerts

Though it is early in the semester, McMinnville and Portland faculty should use the academic alert system in WebAdvisor to notify students (and their advisors) who might be struggling in a course about ways to improve their performance. Faculty unfamiliar with the academic alert system should contact Ellen Crabtree at

MISO Survey

Linfield Libraries and Information Technology Services will conduct the Measuring Information Service Outcomes (MISO) survey beginning this Thursday, March 1. Linfield faculty, staff, and students will be asked to participate in this online survey to gain a better understanding of the impact of existing services on the Linfield community, as well as areas where services can be strengthened to more effectively support the research and work taking place here at Linfield.

The survey will provide a comprehensive snapshot that will inform future strategic planning to continue to enhance student learning, teaching, research, and staff effectiveness through the libraries and ITS.

If you have questions, please contact Kevin Jones at

Faculty Fulbright Scholar Applications

The Core Fulbright Scholar Program provides faculty opportunities to teach and/or conduct research abroad for periods ranging from three to 12 months. This program also offers the flex option of short, multiple stays abroad for up to two years.

The program competition opens on Thursday, March 1 and applications are due by Wednesday, August 1. Please contact Catherine Jarmin Miller at if you intend to apply to this program.

Pre-Nursing Advising

This week, pre-nursing students who are within one year of entry to the School of Nursing will be asked to declare pre-nursing if they have not already done so, and will be invited to switch advisors to Christy Chaung, Pre-Nursing Advising Program Coordinator. Faculty advisors will be notified if their advisees are invited to switch advisors.
