Writing Center Staff

David Sumner, Director

I have been directing both Linfield’s Writing Program and Writing Center since 2004.  Before that, I taught, and was director of writing at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. I received my PhD from the University of Oregon in 2000. I am very interested in writing and rhetoric and I teach American and environmental literature in the English and environmental studies departments. When I’m not reading, writing, teaching, or researching, I enjoy wandering wild landscapes with my family and my fly rod.

Kelley Hungerford, Student Director

I am a senior business management major and the editor-in-chief of The Linfield Review. I love editing, helping people improve their writing and helping them feel confident about their work. I am familiar with all citation styles, but I know AP and APA best.

Abby Lundberg

I am a Sophomore-Junior-Something with a major in philosophy and minor in history. In my free time (or any time) I enjoy ceramics, theology, yoga, and playing on my brother's XBOX.I am familiar with MLA citations and also enjoy playing with sentence fluency and grammar.

Allison Elliott

Eric Stones

I'm a Junior Creative Writing major from Beaverton, Oregon. I read. A lot. And I write a bit too... I also love music, comic books and video games. I realize that makes me sound like kind of a nerd, but I'm totallyokay with that.

Jordan Jacobo

I am a senior English major. I play music on vinyl, take photos on film, and read voraciously (especially works of dead, white men). Mt turn-offs are comma splices and misused gender-neutral pronouns. I plan on becoming a high school teacher.

Josh Bott

I am a Junior double-majoring in Philosophy and Creative Writing. My primary interests in life are deep thought, deep sleep, and deep-fried foods. My strengths as a writing assistant include organization, thesis development, and counter-argument; I also enjoy pre-writing and tweaking grammar. A good essay, no matter what the topic, ought to sound like it has something to say, rather than having to say something.

Michelle Kennedy

Nursing Major, Spanish Minor. I have an emphasis on APA and enjoy helping bilingual writers, especially Spanish speakers. I have a strong science background.

Rachel Mills

I am a senior creative writing and business major from Nevada (NOT Nevaw-duh). I gobble up every book I see (rather than read them), write when the muse hits (generally at 2 a.m. or in the middle of class), and have recently learned to like spinach. I love editing, to the extent of correcting people's grammar in Facebook status updates!

Sammi Mack

Hey all! I'm a senior, majoring in Communication Arts major and minoring in English. I hail from Olympia, WA, where it rains 364 days a year (or thereabouts). Admittedly, I am a word nerd, and I love me a rousing game of speed scrabble! Other favorites include: singing, coffee, and skillfully avoiding homework. I have experience with MLA and APA citation styles, and I'm familiar with literary analysis as well as formal research papers. My favorite part of working at the Writing Center is helping students brainstorm, so if you're in a rut, come talk to me!

Stephen Dennis

I'm finishing up my final semester here at Linfield. I will be graduating this spring with a major in Creative Writing and minors in English and Coaching. I'm comfortable working with all styles of academic writing, but particularly enjoy working with differing types of creative writing - especially poetry. I also know that I'm quite tall, as little kids never fail to remind of that fact.
