Summer Program
The summer session runs for 6 weeks from mid-June through the end of July. Selected students live on Linfield College’s campus in residential halls fully supervised by program staff. Classes in English (writing and literature), science, mathematics, foreign language, and social studies meet each morning, Monday through Friday. In many cases, it is possible for students to earn credit towards high school graduation through successful completion of these courses. A variety of other activities are also offered such as swimming, bowling, crafts, outside field trips, and community service opportunities. All of these services are free of charge to program participants.
Only 50 students out of the entire enrollment are able to attend the summer component. Participation is based on academic performance, motivation and behavior.
The summer schedule is sufficiently busy that it is rarely possible for students to maintain outside jobs and/or activities during the week. Some students are able to maintain outside activity schedules if these activities are held on weekends.
During the summer, UB covers each student’s room and board costs. Each participant also receives a stipend of $10.00 per week. In addition, students receive necessary school supplies, such as paper, pens, and pencils.
