Green Building Policy

Linfield College is a signatory to the President’s Climate Commitment, and espouses an ethos of environmental sustainability and reduction of its carbon footprint.

Linfield College recognizes the operation or modernization of its existing buildings, and the construction of new buildings is a contributor to Green House Gas emissions.

To reduce its carbon footprint and to meet the challenges of the President’s Climate Commitment, Linfield College will construct or remodel buildings to LEED-Silver equivalent standards.  These standards include energy and water efficiencies, indoor air quality, and resource recycling.

This policy shall be distributed to design teams and contractors working on such projects and will require major capital projects to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standards.  Consideration will be given to going through the certification process, but is not necessarily required.

See attached Linfield Building Guidelines (in progress).

Energy Star Appliance Policy

Linfield College is committed to purchasing Energy Star certified appliances whenever possible and financially reasonable.  This includes refrigerators, computers, laundry equipment, and other appropriate appliances that have an energy rating.  All departments that purchase equipment shall seek an energy efficient alternative whenever possible.
