One tradition that hasn’t changed in more than 40 years is the familiar logo on each player’s helmet.
The venerable Linfield athletic logo, showing a scowling Wildcat wearing a jauntily cocked sailor's cap, first became a fixture in 1963 under the late coach Paul Durham.
Regarded as one of the most influential coaches in school history, Durham directed the Wildcats from 1948 to 1967. In 20 seasons, Durham rolled up a career record of 122-51-10 while leading Linfield to seven conference titles and two appearances in the NAIA national championship game. Durham left Linfield to become athletic director at the University of Hawaii where he served for eight years before retiring in 1975. He died June 22, 2007, of natural causes.
