An impressive debut in the season-opening Northwest Conference series by Linfield College's Ashley Garcia (Sr., Beaveton, Ore.) has propelled the senior third baseman to National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Week honors.
Garcia hit .778 for the week (7-of-9) with three doubles, a home run, seven runs batted in and two walks in Linfield's first four games.
The Westview High School graduate excelled in four five-inning wins against Lewis & Clark, a series in which the Wildcats outscored the Pioneers 36-0. Garcia was particularly effective in a pair of 10-0 victories, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI in one, and 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI in the other.
A career .393 hitter, Garcia rose to No. 10 on the Linfield RBI ladder following her big weekend. Her 109 RBI moved her past former Wildcats All-American Shelly Steinke. She now has 18 career home runs, eighth-most in Linfield history.
The NFCA Division III Player and Pitcher of the Week are nominated by sports information directors and selected by a panel of eight NCAA Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.
