Turning in the third no-hitter of her college career, Linfield College senior Shelby VandeBergh (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) has been named Northwest Conference Softball Student-Athlete of the Week for pitchers, announced by the league office on Monday. The award was selected by a vote of the conference's sports information directors.
Against Lewis & Clark on Saturday, VandeBergh pitched five spotless innings, holding Lewis & Clark without a hit or a walk in an 8-0 home-field shutout. She struck out five of the 16 batters she faced.
Earning the victory, VandeBergh raised her career record in the pitching circle to 16-4.
Ranked 14th in the initial National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, Linfield opened its season with a four-game sweep of Northwest Conference affiliate Lewis & Clark. The Wildcats blanked the Pioneers 36-0 in the four games, all shortened to five innings by the eight-run rule.
NEXT: Linfield visits George Fox (9-0, 3-0 NWC) Saturday for a NWC doubleheader starting at noon. Sunday, the Wildcats are back at home to face Pacific (7-1, 2-0 NWC), also at noon.
Improves career record to 16-4
