McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Five first-place finishes highlighted a solid return to the swimming pool for the Linfield Wildcats against the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in a Northwest Confernce dual meet Friday night at the Linfield Aquatics Center.
Nikki Overton (Soph., Gresham, Ore.), Elizabeth Fry (Soph., Bellevue, Idaho) and Maggie May (Sr., Aberdeen, Wash.) each turned in winning times for the Wildcat women while Lee Rivers (Sr., Renton, Wash.) and Ian White (Soph., Kailua, Hawaii) prevailed in their individual men's races.
Lewis & Clark won both sides of the scoring ledger, taking the men's meet by a 116-67 count and capturing the women's event 131-74.
Overton clocked 2:01.84 in winning the women's 200-yard freestyle. The Wildcats sophomore was also runner-up in the 100 freestyle in 56.85. Fry captured the 500 freestyle by more than a second over L&C's Lesley Pfeiffer, 5:30.92 to 5:32.09. Fry was second in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:17.53.
May was a clear-cut winner in the women's 200 backstroke, touching out in a season-best time of 2:16.35. The Linfield junior also scored a second-place showing in the 200 individual medley in 2:19.30. She joined Charlotte Smith (Fr., Olympia, Wash.), Caitlin Duffner (Soph., Issaquah, Wash.) and Alicia Parks (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) for second place in the 400 medley relay in 4:31.39, topping two other L&C quartets.
White blazed to a first-place finish in the men's 100 freestyle in 49.91 and was second in the 50 freestyle in 22.92. Rivers led a 1-3-4 finish by the Wildcats in the 200 IM, turning in a season-best time of 2:04.09. Chris Hu earned third place in the event with a 2:17.51 effort and A.J. Wagoner (Jr., Clackamas, Ore.), competing in his first meet since returning from studying abroad, was fourth in 2:20.48. Wagoner scored third place in the 200 backstroke in 2:17.67 while Hu garnered third in the 200 butterfly in 2:12.46.
Rivers took second in the 500 freestyle in 5:06.24, less than a quarter-second off his season-best time.
Wagoner, Rivers, White and Hu swam unopposed in the men's 400 medley relay (4:00.20).
