OREGON CITY, Ore. – Slotting one golfer among the top 10, the Linfield Wildcats settled into fifth place after the first day of action at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic, staged Saturday at Stone Creek Golf Club.
As Willamette was storming to a 15-stroke first-day lead at the nine-team tournament, the Wildcats slipped back to fifth place with a collective score of 314, 10 strokes behind Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound, each at 304. Whitworth shot a 302 to sit in second place after 18 holes.
Linfield junior Kyle Hargrave (Jr., Clackamas, Ore.) shot 76 to share 10th place on the individual leaderboard. Taylor Klopp (Jr., Eugene, Ore.) turned in a 77 for a share of 14th place and Kevin Kawasaki (Jr., West Linn, Ore.) scored a 79, seven strokes over par and good for a portion of 21st place. Willamette's Ryan Kukula led a 1-2-3 Bearcats finish with a 5-under-par 67. WU's Chase Lamothe carded a 72 and Jacob Armelino shared third place at 73.
Action resumes Sunday morning at Stone Creek.
