SALEM, Ore. – Willamette's .268 hitting percentage, plus 13 kills and seven digs from Sarah Fincher, lifted the home-standing Bearcats to a three-set Northwest Conference victory over the Linfield Wildcats Friday night inside Cone Field House. The scores were 25-16, 25-19, 26-24.
Shayli Coppock (Sr., Temecula, Calif) turned in 10 kills, Kailana Ritte-Camara (Jr., Molokai, Hawaii) had nine, and Quinn Takashima (Soph., Honolulu, Hawaii) and Courtney Wanamaker (Jr., West Linn, Ore.) each notched nine digs for Linfield, which slipped to 5-12 overall, 1-10 in conference play.
Coppock enjoyed her most accurate hitting night of the season, taking 21 swings at the ball coming away with just two errors.
Takashima added three service aces for the ‘Cats. Casie Gaza (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) provided 15 assists, six digs and three kills while fellow setter Audrey Frazier (Jr., Albany, Ore.) totaled 13 assists, three digs and one service ace.
The Wildcats dropped their third straight conference match. Errors again proved to be Linfield's undoing. The ‘Cats registered 25 miscues at the net to Willamette's 12 and piled up five service errors against none for the Bearcats.
WU hit a blazing .556 in the first set to win handily, 25-16, but Linfield surged to keep the second and third sets closer, 25-19, 26-24.
NEXT: Linfield heads to Lewis & Clark for a Saturday night matchup against the Lewis & Clark Pioneers. First serve is set for 7 o'clock.
