In recognition of their respective goal-scoring and goal-denying roles that helped Linfield claim its third consecutive Northwest Conference victory, Ivan Colin (Soph., Napa, Calif.) and Grant Loriaux (Jr., West Linn, Ore.) have been honored as the NWC Men's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Student-Athletes of the Week. The awards were announced Monday afternoon following a vote of the league's sports information directors.
Colin scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to lift Linfield to a 1-0 victory over Willamette. The goal was the second of the season for the sophomore forward, as well as the second of his career.
On the opposite end of the field against the Bearcats, Loriaux made five stops in goal to keep Willamette off the scoreboard. It was the junior's first shutout of the season and third of his career.
The weekly conference award was a career first for both Colin and Loriaux.
With the victory over Willamette, the Wildcats improved to 6-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the Northwest Conference, and matched a season-best streak of three consecutive victories. The team has also strung together three successive league wins for the first time since the 2010 season.
COMING UP: Linfield begins the second half of the NWC schedule with back-to-back home contests against Pacific and George Fox. Both matches, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, begin at 2:30 p.m.
