ALOHA, Ore. – Nearly matching its season-low team score, Linfield finished fifth at the seven-team Culturame Classic, which wrapped up Sunday at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club.
After playing her way into a three-way tie for fifth after 18 holes, Abigail Heringer (Fr., Salem, Ore.) slipped just slightly, finishing in seventh with identical 78s for a two-day total of 156, 10 strokes over par.
Laura Waller (Fr., Hood River, Ore.) was the only Wildcat to shave strokes – a commendable 18, to be exact – from her first-round score, carding a 101 on Day 2 to finish with a cumulative 119-101-220. She placed 39th overall.
Maggie Harlow (Soph., Hillsboro, Ore.) and Alexandria Smith (Sr., Bellingham, Wash.) each finished in the Top 30. Harlow shot a cumulative 81-90-171 to place 23rd, while Smith carded back-to-back 91s to take 30th with a 182.
As a team, the Wildcats shot 369-360-729, with the foursome's second-round score totaling just one higher than its season low, achieved on the first day of the Pacific Invitational.
Host George Fox withstood a challenge from Whitman to win the tournament, totaling 626 strokes to the Missionaries' 629. Oregon's Cali Hipp medaled and set the tournament record with a 76-70-146, even for par. Whitman and George Fox each placed two golfers in the Top 10, with Kelly Sweeney and Catelyn Webber tying for second to lead the Missionaries and Sydney Ostrom pacing the Bruin contingent with a fourth-place effort.
